How do I perform a clean sync?

If you would like to have an exact copy of your Gmail contacts on your Mac, or an exact copy of your Mac contacts in your Gmail account, a clean sync is appropriate. A clean sync involves completely deleting either your Mac or Gmail contacts, and then syncing your contacts so that they match.

Clean Sync - Gmail to Mac

1. Go to https://contacts.google.com.  Verify that your contacts appear exactly as you would like them to appear on your Mac.  Merge duplicates if desired.
2. Open this app 
3. Go to Delete Contacts > Delete Mac Contacts 
4. Go to Sync > 2-way Sync 

Now your Gmail contacts and Mac contacts should match.

Clean Sync - Mac to Gmail

1. Make sure that your Mac contacts appear exactly the way you want them to appear in Gmail. Eliminate any duplicates if appropriate. 
2. Open this app 
3. Go to Delete Contacts > Delete Gmail Contacts 
4. Go to Sync > 2-way Sync 

Now your Gmail contacts and Mac contacts should match.
