If you would like to have an exact copy of your Google contacts on your iPhone, or an exact copy of your iPhone contacts in your Google account, a clean sync is appropriate. A clean sync involves completely deleting either your iPhone or Google contacts, and then syncing your contacts so that they match.
Clean Sync - Google to iPhone
- Go to https://contacts.google.com. Verify that your contacts appear exactly as you would like them to appear on your iPhone. Use the merge tool if appropriate.
- Go to Contacts Sync > Contacts > Delete Contacts & Groups > Delete All iPhone Contacts
- Go to Contacts Sync > Sync > Google Contacts -> iPhone
Now your Google contacts and iPhone contacts should match.
Clean Sync - iPhone to Google
- Make sure that your iPhone contacts appear exactly the way you want them to appear in Google.
- Go to Contacts Sync > Contacts >Delete Contacts & Groups > Delete All Google Contacts
- Go to Contacts Sync > Sync > iPhone Contacts -> Google
Now your Google contacts and iPhone contacts should match.
